Why Take the Combined Course?

Complete the Training Components Together

Delaware’s handgun Permit-to-Purchase program and initial CCDW process each involve firearms-training requirements. For students pursuing both, a combined training format can provide a more efficient path than taking overlapping instruction separately.

One Registration

Register once for a course designed around students pursuing both Delaware training objectives.

Integrated Instruction

Safety, firearm handling, shooting fundamentals, legal awareness, conflict avoidance, and live-fire training are addressed in one structured program.

Two Certificates

Students who successfully complete the applicable course requirements receive separate documentation for the two training purposes.

Successful Completion

Two Separate Training Certificates

The course combines instruction, but the training documentation remains separate so students can use the appropriate certificate with the applicable Delaware process.

Certificate 1

Delaware Permit-to-Purchase Training

Documentation of successful completion of the qualifying firearms-training component for the Delaware handgun qualified purchaser permit process.

Certificate 2

Delaware CCDW Firearms Training

Documentation of successful completion of the firearms training component associated with an initial Delaware Concealed Deadly Weapon license application.

Course Content

What Does the Training Cover?

Delaware law establishes specific subject areas for qualifying firearms training. The combined course is structured around the applicable training elements for Permit-to-Purchase and CCDW students.

  • Knowledge and safe handling of firearms
  • Safe firearm storage and child-safety considerations
  • Knowledge and safe handling of ammunition
  • Safe ammunition storage
  • Safe firearm shooting fundamentals
  • Live-fire range exercises
  • Ways to develop and maintain shooting skills
  • Federal and Delaware firearm-law awareness
  • Delaware law concerning use of deadly force
  • Conflict avoidance and management of violent confrontations
  • Responsible firearm ownership and decision-making
  • Suicide-prevention instruction applicable to Permit-to-Purchase training
Live-Fire Requirement

Classroom Education + Range Training

Qualifying Delaware Permit-to-Purchase and initial CCDW training includes live-fire exercises on a range. Delaware’s published requirements specify the expenditure of at least 100 rounds of ammunition as part of the required training.

Safe Handling

Students work on safe firearm handling and manipulation before and during the live-fire portion.

Shooting Fundamentals

Range work reinforces safe shooting fundamentals and responsible firearm operation.

Skill Development

The course also addresses ways students can continue developing and maintaining firearm skills after class.

After Training

The Permit-to-Purchase Process Continues After Class

Training is one component of the Delaware handgun qualified purchaser permit process. Completing the course does not itself issue the purchaser permit.

1

Complete Training

Successfully complete qualifying firearms training and obtain the appropriate course certification.

2

Fingerprints / Identification

Covered applicants complete the fingerprinting and identification portion required by the Delaware State Police process.

3

Submit the Application

The applicant submits the required documentation through the Delaware State Police Permit-to-Purchase process for review.

Important: A person who already holds a valid Delaware CCDW license issued by the Superior Court is generally not required to obtain a handgun qualified purchaser permit before purchasing a handgun.
Delaware CCDW

Training Is Only One Part of the CCDW Application

Completing the firearms course does not automatically produce a Delaware CCDW license. The license is issued through the Delaware Superior Court process after the applicant satisfies the applicable statutory requirements.

Training Documentation

Initial applicants must provide the required firearms-training certification as part of the licensing process.

Application Requirements

Delaware’s CCDW process includes requirements beyond firearms training. Applicants should follow the current instructions issued by the Delaware Superior Court for their county.

Court-Issued License

Coastal Training Group provides training. Coastal Training Group does not issue the Delaware CCDW license and cannot guarantee approval of an application.
