Delaware’s handgun Permit-to-Purchase program and initial CCDW process each involve firearms-training requirements. For students pursuing both, a combined training format can provide a more efficient path than taking overlapping instruction separately.

Classroom Education + Range Training

The Permit-to-Purchase Process Continues After Class
Training is one component of the Delaware handgun qualified purchaser permit process. Completing the course does not itself issue the purchaser permit.

Successfully complete qualifying firearms training and obtain the appropriate course certification.
Fingerprints / Identification
Covered applicants complete the fingerprinting and identification portion required by the Delaware State Police process.
Submit the Application
The applicant submits the required documentation through the Delaware State Police Permit-to-Purchase process for review.
Training Is Only One Part of the CCDW Application
Completing the firearms course does not automatically produce a Delaware CCDW license. The license is issued through the Delaware Superior Court process after the applicant satisfies the applicable statutory requirements.

Initial applicants must provide the required firearms-training certification as part of the licensing process.
Application Requirements
Delaware’s CCDW process includes requirements beyond firearms training. Applicants should follow the current instructions issued by the Delaware Superior Court for their county.
Court-Issued License
Coastal Training Group provides training. Coastal Training Group does not issue the Delaware CCDW license and cannot guarantee approval of an application.

Delaware Combined Course FAQ
Does completing this course give me a Delaware CCDW license?
No. The course satisfies the firearms-training component associated with the licensing process when all applicable course requirements are successfully completed. The Delaware Superior Court issues CCDW licenses.
Does completing the course automatically give me a handgun purchaser permit?
No. Training is one component of the Delaware Permit-to-Purchase process. Covered applicants must also complete the other requirements established by Delaware State Police.
Is live fire required?
Yes. Delaware’s published training requirements for both the handgun purchaser permit and initial CCDW training include live-fire range exercises and at least 100 rounds of ammunition.
What if I already have a Delaware CCDW?
Delaware State Police states that holders of a valid Delaware CCDW license issued by the Superior Court are not required to obtain a handgun qualified purchaser permit before purchasing a handgun. You may therefore not need the combined course for Permit-to-Purchase purposes.
Can I take only the Permit-to-Purchase portion?
Yes. Coastal Firearms also offers a Permit-to-Purchase-only training option for students who do not need the combined course.
Can I take only the Delaware CCDW course?
Yes. Students who only need the Delaware concealed-carry firearms-training course can register for that course separately.
